Hello from Puffins! Mrs Scott, Mrs Hall and Miss Jones are the lucky members of staff, who work with the perfect Puffins.
This term we will be studying ‘How does Chard carnival bring people together?’ This will involve us making key comparisons between the UK and Brazil and looking at the history of carnivals. As part of this, we will be entering Chard children’s carnival on the 12th October. We really hope many of you will be there to cheer us along! In Science, we will be exploring electricity and sound, looking at how electricity is made, making and testing circuits and designing our own alarms. As well as this, we will be learning about Hinduism in Religious Education.
In English, we will focus on a range of genres and texts, allowing the children to extend their ability in writing. Some of these will incorporate key themes from this term’s topic around deforestation and extinction. In Maths, we will be focusing on place value and addition and subtraction. As well as this, we will focus on the children’s speed and ability to recall their times tables, in preparation for the end of year four statutory times tables test. Furthermore, we will revisit key arithmetic skills that we will continue to develop on a daily basis.
PE will be on a Monday with Mr Jackson; please ensure your child has suitable clothing for either indoor or outdoor activities. As well as this, Mrs Morton will teach art on a Monday and performing arts with the children on a Thursday.
Spellings will be weekly, which are based on a rule that the children will need to learn to enable them to apply to their writing. Homework will also be weekly, set on a Monday and collected the following Monday. In addition to this, it is expected that over the course of a week, children will have read five times.
