Mrs Hall, Mrs Jones and Miss Warren
Welcome to Otters with Mrs Hall, Mrs Jones and Miss Warren. We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead.
In Otters we have high expectations of ourselves and each other and are always striving to be better learners.
In English we will be reading The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd and creating our own mystery story based on the book. We will also be writing explanation texts and learning about the legend of King Arthur. Spelling, grammar and handwriting will be a daily focus.
In mathematics our key topics are place value, calculation and fractions. Arithmetic, problem solving and reasoning will all be very important skills in year 6.
At Manor Court this term our topic is Chard. Otters will be finding out about the life of former Chard resident Margaret Bondfield and investigating the impact of her role as the first female MP. By the end of the term we will be able to evaluate Bondfield’s impact on the development of British democracy. We will be visiting the fantastic Bondfield exhibition at Chard Museum to support this topic.
In Art we will be studying the works of local artist Jenny Melling.
In Science our first topic is electricity. Our second topic is Light, including how we see. We are lucky to have a local Optometrist visiting us as part of this topic.
In Otters P.E is on a Thursday.
Homework is set on a Tuesday and expected to be given in on a Tuesday. Homework club runs on a Monday after school.
