Welcome to Nightingales Class!
Welcome to Nightingales with Miss Parsons, Miss Gomes and Mrs Koike. The children have settled into Year 2 beautifully and are full of enthusiasm for the year ahead. We have very high expectations of all children and they are working very hard already to achieve their best. They are already very enthused with the topic of Stringfellow and are excited to learn how he has changed our lives.
In English we will be beginning the term by looking at ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels’. This will link to the terms topic of John Stringfellow (transport). We will then be writing a narrative, recount, letter, instructions and much more. Throughout the autumn term, we will be learning key grammar terms and practising applying them to our writing. As a year group, we will continue to practise our handwriting.
In Mathematics we will be beginning the term by learning about place value. Children will learn how many tens and ones are in a two-digit number and improve their fluency with counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10s and be introduced to counting in 3s. We will then move onto addition and subtraction with two-digit numbers.
Our topic this term is Chard. Within History we will learn about flight, looking at John Stringfellow and the Wright brothers. Our Art and DT will be inspired by ‘Lowry’ and we will be developing other skills such as plaiting, painting and using materials. In Religious we will be answering the question ‘What do Jewish people believe about the Torah?’. In science we explore how we can be healthy and the importance this has on our bodies.
Magpies will be taught P.E by Mr Jackson, a specialist coach, on a Thursday morning.
