Our Music Subject lead is Miss Prater
At Manor Court Community Primary School, we believe in a broad and balanced curriculum where all subjects are valued and children’s individual talents are explored. Our Music curriculum aims to provide high-quality, practical and engaging musical experiences which develop children’s musical skills and knowledge progressively. We want all children to develop the self-confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding to develop a lifelong love of music.
To ensure all children have the opportunities to:
Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations
At Manor Court Community Primary, we follow the National Curriculum for England 2016 and also use the ‘Sing up’ scheme of work as it supports non specialist teachers in delivery of the music curriculum with supportive resources. The scheme also ensures progression through each year group across the school as well as coverage of all the strands of music. It follows the suggestive approaches of the Model Music Curriculum as well as the EYFS and Music Development Matters. Where there are links to our topics, we supplement this scheme with other activities.
We aim to provide opportunities for our children to access specialist instrumental tuition through a specialist teacher of piano, ukelele and guitar. We have KS1 and KS2 choirs. There is WCET of Ukulele. We ensure all our children have regular opportunities to sing and perform to an audience through productions, music recitals and participation in community events. We link with the local secondary school to watch their musical performances.
Our aim at Manor Court Community Primary School is that every child’s needs are catered for and every child is given the chance to succeed. All pupils will be fully included in music lessons and individual needs responded to, as they are for all curriculum areas at the school.
