Magpies

Welcome to Magpies Class!

Miss Grabham

Welcome to Magpies with Miss Grabham, Mrs Crump and Mrs Burns. Year 2 is full of enthusiasm, motivation and hardworking children. The children have settled into Year 2 fantastically. We as teachers and the children have high expectations of ourselves and each other and are always striving to improve our handwriting, to learn something new and to develop our skills.

In English we will look at the narrative ‘The Queen’s Hat’. This will link to the terms topic of Around the World in 80 days and The Great Fire of London. We will then be writing a narrative, diary, character description and much more. Throughout the spring term, we will be learning key grammar terms and practising applying them to our writing.

In Mathematics we will begin by learning and using strategies for multiplication, to help us recall our twos, fives and tens times tables. We will then explore division and how they are related to each other. Throughout the rest of the term in Mathematics we will be about fractions by finding 1/4, 1/3 and 3/4 of an amount, number and shape.

Our topic this term is Around the World in 80 days. Within Geography we will be naming and locating the world’s seven continents and five oceans, capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding areas and we will compare the UK with a Non-EU country. Our Art and Design and Technology will be inspired by ‘The Great Fire of London’ so we will be making our own Tudor houses and baking our own bread. Year 2 will have the opportunity to work with Mrs Morton in a textiles project. In RE we will be answering the question ‘What do Christians believe about forgiveness?’. In science we will be exploring materials. We will look at why objects are made from certain materials and how they can change their shape. In music we will be learning to play the recorder.

Magpies will be taught P.E by Mr Jackson, a specialist coach, on a Tuesday morning.
