Welcome to Magpies Class!

Miss Grabham

During the Autumn and Spring Term Magpies have worked extremely hard and have been motivated learners. Magpies have improved their handing writing and presentation across all subjects. These high expectations will continue with a greater focus on joining. The children are thoroughly enjoying the curriculum and their Manor Court 48 experiences.

In English we will be beginning the term by looking at Jack and the Beanstalk. This will link to science this term where we will investigate what plants need to grow. We will then be writing a narrative, diary, character description and much more. Throughout the spring term we will be learning key grammar terms and practising applying them to our writing.

In Mathematics we will begin with problem solving with a focus on two step problems to prepare children for the Year 2 SATS. Throughout the rest of the term in Mathematics we will continue with measurements focusing on weight, capacity and temperatures. Then we will move onto telling the time to half past, o’clock, quarter and five minute intervals.

Our topic this term is called ‘What Price Progress’ and we will be answering the enquiry question ‘how can we make the world a better place?’ In Geography we will be exploring the similarities and differences of a small area of the UK and of a non-European country. In History we will learn about famous historic nurses who have helped make the world a better place. Our Art and Design and Technology will be inspired by Paul Klee, Mark Rothko and recycled materials. In RE we will be answering the question Why are some stories special? In science we will begin with investigating what plants need to grow. Later on in the term we will focus on animals and living things. We will learn about different habitats and food chains. In music we will be learning to play the recorder.

Magpies will be taught P.E by Mr Jackson, a specialist coach, on a Thursday afternoon.
