Miss Brown and Mrs Crump
Welcome to Magpies with Miss Brown and Mrs Crump. Year 2 is full of enthusiastic and hardworking children. We have high expectations of ourselves and each other and are always striving to learn something new and develop our skills.
In English this term, we will be reading ‘Room on the Broom’ and ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. We will be writing for a range of purposes including narratives, diaries, character descriptions and much more. We will be learning key grammar terms such as expanded noun phrases, possessive apostrophes and different types of sentences. These will be practised and applied in our writing.
In Mathematics, we will begin by learning and using strategies for multiplication, to help us recall our twos, fives and tens times tables. We will then explore division and how these operations are related. Throughout the rest of the term, we will be learning about fractions by finding 1/4, 1/3 and 3/4 of an amount, number and shape.
Our topic this term is ‘What Price Progress.’ Within Geography we will be naming and locating the world’s seven continents and five oceans. We will then compare the human and physical geography of a small area of the UK to China. In History, we will be learning about the lives of significant nurses (Edith Cavell, Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole) to answer our enquiry question ‘Which nurse had the biggest impact?’ In Art, we will be using a range of materials, including recycled materials, creatively to design and make products. In RE, we will be answering the question ‘What do Christians believe about forgiveness?’. In Science, we will be exploring everyday materials. We will look at why objects are made from certain materials and how they can change their shape. In Music, we will be learning to play the recorder.
Magpies will be taught P.E on a Friday PM and will focus on developing our balance and coordination skills.
