Miss Brown and Mrs Crump
Welcome to Nightingales with Miss Parsons, Mrs Farwell and Miss Smith. Year 2 is full of enthusiastic and hardworking children. The children are settling into Year 2 extremely well. We as teachers and the children have high expectations of ourselves and each other and are always striving to improve our handwriting, to learn something new and to develop our skills.
In English we will be beginning the term by looking at George’s Dragon and then Room on the Broom. We will be writing a narrative, diary, character description and much more. Throughout the spring term, we will be learning to use conjunctions, processive apostrophes and commas in a list. These will be practised and applied into our writing.
In Mathematics we will begin by learning and using strategies for multiplication, to help us recall our twos, fives and tens times tables. We will then explore division and how they are related to each other. Throughout the rest of the term in Mathematics we will be about fractions by finding 1/4, 1/3 and 3/4 of an amount, number and shape.
Our Geography topic for Spring is Oceans and Seas. Within Geography we will be naming and locating oceans and seas and comparing the human and physical geography of different coasts. In History we will be learning about the lives of significant individuals Mary Anning and Grace Darling. We will be exploring their achievements. In Art we will develop our skills in painting and printing to produce ocean scenes. In RE we will be answering the question ‘What do Christians believe about forgiveness?’. In science we will be exploring materials. We will look at why objects are made from certain materials and how they can change their shape.
Nightingales will be taught P.E on a Friday afternoon and for the first half term this will be swimming.
