Miss Brown and Mrs Crump
Over the past two terms the children have worked extremely hard, especially with learning their arithmetic and improving their writing stamina. These high expectations will continue as we make our way through the remainder of the year and many new and exciting learning opportunities, in preparation for Year 3.
Throughout the summer term, we will look at the narratives ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, ‘The Queen’s Hat’ and ‘The Killer Cat’ among other texts in English. The children will have the opportunity to write diaries, letters, character descriptions, narratives and other genres. We will continue to develop our understanding and use of key grammar terms, punctuation and spelling rules.
In Mathematics, we will begin with building our knowledge of 3D shapes by naming and describing their properties. We will then explore money and continue to learn how to make a specific value in different ways. Throughout the rest of the term, we will learn to tell the time to five-minute intervals, make quarter and three quarter turns clockwise or anti-clockwise and measure in grams, kilograms, litres, millilitres, centimetres and metres.
Our theme this term is ‘Around the World in 80 days’. Within Geography we will study the United Kingdom, including the capital cities of the four UK countries and landmarks, as well as hot and cold climates in relation to the equator and the Poles. In Art and Design and Design and Technology we will shape, decorate and join textiles and explore printing and the use of wheels and winding mechanisms in projects related to the Great Fire of London. In RE we will be answering the question ‘What do Christian’s believe about love?’ and in Science we will investigate what plants need to live and explore different habitats and why living things live in certain habitats.
Magpies will go swimming every Friday up until May half term and will continue to be taught by Mrs Gomes for Portuguese.
