Dragonfly class has worked really hard this academic year and it has shown in their progress so far. The children are interested in their learning and put 100% effort into the work they do. They are a kind and caring group of children and this reflects in their group work, where they successfully support each other to learn.
Our topic this coming term is ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ and our focus question is ‘Where in the world am I?’. In Science, we will be exploring materials and their properties. Dragonflies will be learning about Christopher Columbus and his travels, in History, this will build on their previous learning where they explored the four countries that make up the UK. Art and Music will follow the ‘around the world’ theme by finding out about Native American art, as well as a variety of well-known artists, and enjoying songs from around the world.
In English, the children will be exploring a variety of texts, including narratives, non-chronological reports, instructions and poetry. Dragonflies will be continuing their work on successfully applying their phonetic knowledge and practicing their handwriting as well as applying their non-negotiables to their writing – such as capital letters and full stops.
In Maths, the children have started to use Times Tables Rockstars to support their learning in recalling their tables and have become very good at counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Number and place value work will be continued as well as undertaking practical work in measure. Dragonflies will continue to deepen their understanding through problem solving and reasoning tasks, which they are becoming increasingly confident with.
We look forward to another hardworking and successful term.
