Welcome to Puffins class in Year 4, taught by Mrs Terry, with support from Mrs Anjos, Mrs Gray, Mrs Larcombe, Mrs Stoodley and Miss Warren. We have made a great start to the year, and are working hard to achieve our best.
We began our English lessons with a narrative unit based on the graphic novel ‘A Roman Rescue’, which also linked to our history unit. We are moving on to look at non-chronological reports about the Romans, and we will write a recount after our planned visit to Dorset Museum on the 8th November. In maths we have been focussing on Place Value. We will be examining partitioning, rounding to the nearest 10 and 100, and looking at negative numbers. Roman numerals will be new learning for most of our pupils.
Our exciting history topic is The Romans! We have already plotted key events in British history to think about the time that Romans invaded, researched Julius Caesar, and had a Roman art day. Our Science topic this half term is ‘Animals including Humans.’ We have begun by identifying the function of the digestive system, and looking at tooth care. In R.E. we will be thinking about our values, in school and out of school, before moving on to look closely at Christianity. In Computing, the children will take part in E-Safety lessons at the start of the term, and then move to use the program ‘Scratch.’
We are fortunate in Year 4 to have P.E. taught by a qualified coach, and we have a drama and music specialist who will be teaching one lesson a week in the hall. Please note that it will be Year 4’s turn to swim weekly after the October half term. Our French lessons will be building on the key words we learnt in Year 3.
If you have any questions about the Year 4 curriculum, please come and speak to us. We look forward to working with you to support your child’s learning.
