Welcome to Nightingales Class!
Welcome to Nightingales with Miss Parsons and Mrs Gomes. Year 2 is full of enthusiasm and hardworking children. The children are settling into Year 2 extremely well. We as teachers and the children have high expectations of ourselves and each other and are always striving to improve our handwriting, to learn something new and to develop our skills.
In English we will be beginning the term by look at The Queen’s Hat. This will link to the terms topic of Around the World in 80 days and The Great Fire of London. We will then be writing a narrative, diary, character description and much more. Throughout the spring term we will be learning key grammar terms and practising applying them to our writing.
In Mathematics we will continue learning about multiplication and will then move onto division and explore how they are related. Throughout the rest of the term in Mathematics we will be about fractions by finding ½, ¼ and ¾ of an amount, number and shape. Then we will move onto statistics were we will collect data using pictograms, tally charts and block diagrams.
Our topic this term is around the world in 80 days. Within Geography we will be naming and locating the world’s seven continents and five oceans and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding areas. Our Art and Design and Technology will be inspired by ‘The Great Fire of London’ so we will be making our own Tudor houses and baking our own bread. In RE we will be answering the question ‘How should we live our lives?’. In science we will be exploring materials. We will look at why objects are made from certain materials. In music we will be learning to play the recorder.
Magpies will be taught P.E by Mr Jackson, a specialist coach, on a Thursday afternoon.
