Magpies had a great Spring term, continuing to learn lots of new things whilst also having lots of fun! Children thoroughly enjoyed English where we focused on writing different genres around a text. The children particularly enjoyed the story about Queen Victoria’s Underpants where lots of great writing was produced. In Maths we learnt about fractions and shapes, and children have become increasingly confident with their arithmetic.
In English this term, we will be focusing on reading and grammar to prepare the children for their SATS in a few weeks. We will also write recounts about our up coming trips. Later on in the term we will write an information text, poetry and more narratives. Our current Mathematics focus is statistics. Children will be learning how to make pictograms and block graphs, then interpreting the information which is shown. Later on in the term we will be learning how to tell the time. Children will need to know how to tell the time to o’clock, half past and in five minute intervals.
Our topic this half term is a Geography focus called ‘what a wonder world’ where we will learning about continents and oceans. After half term our topic will be ‘Seasides’. For science we will be learning about animals and their habitats where lots of our learning will be completed outside.
We are very excited for the school trips we have planned for this term. We will be visiting St Mary’s church as part of our Religious Education unit. As part of our Science unit about animals and their habitats we will be visiting Ferne Animal Sanctuary.
