Welcome to Herons with Mrs Jones, Mrs Johns and Mrs Willmington. We are enjoying Year 6.
In Herons we have high expectations of ourselves and each other and are always striving to be better learners; throughout the year we will be working on our resourcefulness, resilience, reflectiveness and reciprocity.
In English this term we will be studying the novel Skellig by David Almond. We will also be revising our grammar terms and applying them in our writing. After our SATs tests we will be producing lots of writing about Chard which will be inspired by the book Where My Wellies Take Me by Michael Morpurgo.
In Mathematics we are beginning the term with Statistics and Geometry. We will be learning how to calculate the diameter of a circle and how to interpret pie charts. Each day we will be practising our arithmetic skills. Before our SATs tests at the end of May we will be revising all of the key mathematical concepts.
In year 6 this term the children will be continuing our Greeks topic
In Science our topic is Habitats and Classification. We will be getting out and about to explore this exciting topic in our school grounds.
In Herons we are very lucky to have Mr Jackson, a specialist coach, teach Multi-skills on a Friday afternoon. On a Wednesday afternoon Year 6 are taught drama and music by Miss Dalwood. We are working hard towards our end of year performance based on The Lion King.
