Welcome to Herons with Mrs Jones, Mr Durrant and Mrs Willmington. We are looking forward to an exciting and challenging year in 2018. In Herons we have high expectations of ourselves and each other and are always striving to be better learners; throughout the year we will be working on our resourcefulness and resilience.
In English this term we will be writing a biography of David Attenborough which links with our Evolution topic. We will then be reading and learning about the novel Skellig by David Almond. After half term we will be writing Myths and Legends. We will end the term by learning about persuasive texts. All of our English this term will have a strong emphasis on grammar.
In maths our key topics this term are:
Decimals and Percentages
Area and Perimeter
Ratio and proportion
Volume and converting units of measure
During the Spring term our Geography topic is Mountains and we will be learning about the different ways in which Mountain ranges are formed. After half term our Humanities focus will become History and we will learn about Ancient Greece.
In Science our topic is Evolution. We will learn about the theories of Charles Darwin and how different creatures have adapted to their habitats.
In Herons we are very lucky to have Mr Jackson, a specialist coach, teaching Multi-skills on a Friday afternoon. On a Wednesday afternoon Year 6 are taught drama and music by Miss Dalton.
