Welcome to Dragonflies with Miss Cazzulini and Miss Clarke. Dragonflies are a wonderful and motivated class. We are enthusiastic learners and are always learning something new and exciting. We always try our hardest to be the best that we can be. As a class we celebrate each other’s successes and support each other when we need to.
Our focus question for this term is ‘how can we improve the school environment?’ and we will be planting a range of plants and looking after the Year 1 outdoor area. At the end of the term we will be holding a garden party for parents to come and celebrate our outdoor work.
In English we will continue to focus and work hard on phonics, handwriting, spellings and applying our non-negotiables to our writing. Throughout the term we will be reading a range of texts and writing a variety of genres, including narratives, poetry, instructions, non-chronological reports and diaries. Children will sit the phonics screening test in June this term.
In mathematics, we will begin the term focusing on place value, addition and subtraction. The other topics that we will progress onto include multiplication, division, fractions, money and time. The children are becoming more confident in working independently in maths and deepening their learning through reasoning and problem solving tasks.
In topic we will cover a variety of subjects, including history, geography, science, music and art. In science the children will be learning all about plants and the environment and will have the opportunity to plant their own plants and learn about the aspects for helping them grow. In history the children will explore the changes in living memory, focusing on aspects of contemporary life such as music, toys, food and transport. For geography we will be looking at the physical and human features of outdoor environments.
The children will continue to develop their physical skills through PE with Mr Jackson on a Tuesday morning, which they enjoy. They will also continue their fantastic Portuguese lesson with Mrs Gomes.
